Neck of Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko as seen from the orbiting spacecraft Rosetta. 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is around 3.5 by 4 kilometres, consisting of a large lobe (off screen at left) and a smaller lobe (off screen at right) connected by this smooth 'neck' region called Hapi. The European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft was launched in March 2004 and entered orbit around the comet on 6 August 2014. It carried instruments and a lander to map and study the comet's surface and core. Image obtained on 18 September 2014,at a distance of around 27 kilometres.
