Fayum mummy portrait from Roman Egypt. This portrait,depicting a woman,dates to around 30BC to AD 149. This specific style of funeral portrait is usually dated to the 1st to 3rd centuries AD. The first examples were found in 1887 in the Fayum Basin by an expedition led by British archaeologist and Egyptologist Flinders Petrie.
