William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877),English physicist and pioneer of the negative-positive process of photography. In 1839,the same year as the invention of the daguerreotype by Daguerre,he announced his invention of photography or “photogenic drawingâ€,a system of making photographic prints on silver chloride paper. In 1841 he patented the calotype - the first process of photographic negatives from which prints could be made. He was consequently awarded the Royal Society's Rumford Medal.
