Predicted annular solar eclipse of 1820. Diagram prepared two years earlier to show the expected track of the central zone for the solar eclipse of 7 September 1820. The region from where the eclipse was visible stretched from the Arabian Peninsula across the eastern Mediterranean and central Europe, across the North Sea into the Arctic. This was an annular eclipse in some regions and a partial eclipse in others. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun,leaving a ring of sunlight visible. These calculations and diagrams were prepared in Antwerp in 1818 by Dutch astronomer J. P. Bourje | |
