German rocket pioneer Klaus Riedel with a Repulsor rocket. Riedel was involved in many early liquid-fuelled rocket experiments, and eventually worked on the V-2 missile programme. He worked for the German Verein fur Raumschiffahrt (VfR,Spaceflight Society) and was active in its efforts to build a working rocket. Repulsor rockets were one of the later designs built by the VfR,which was active from 1927 to 1933 and carried out pioneering work that laid the foundations for space flight. The Repulsor rocket was the most successful of the VfR rockets, reaching a height of over 1 kilometre. Photographed in 1934 | |
