The control panel is for the MANIAC (Mathematical Analyzer,Numerator,Integrator and Computer) computing machine used by Polish-US mathematician Stanislaw Marcin Ulam (1909-1985) and his colleagues to study chaos theory. Ulam worked here as part of the Manhattan Project during World War II. Ulam's only child and daughter Claire was born in 1944,a year after Ulam had been recruited to the Manhattan Project.
