Edwin Joseph Cohn (1892-1953),US biochemist,in a laboratory. Cohn was awarded his doctorate by the University of Chicago in 1917. He devoted his career to research on proteins,studying in Europe with Sorensen,Arrhenius,Hardy and Barcroft. He then undertook research at the Harvard Medical School on the solubility of proteins. With John Edsall,Cohn co-authored 'Proteins,Amino Acids and Peptides' (1943). During World War II,his studies of blood plasma aided military transfusions.
