Dunnet beach radiation monitoring. Sign warning the public to avoid contact with sand and other coastal materials at Dunnet Beach in northern Scotland. This is due to the presence of radioactive material from the nearby Dounreay nuclear reactors. The Dounreay site has been under the ownership of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority since 2005. Initial decommissioning will conclude in 2036,with the site made fully safe by 2336. Radioactive materials were detected on Dunnet beach in 2009,resulting in ongoing monitoring and clean-up operations | |
