Wright brothers Kitty Hawk glider. Test flight by US aviation pioneer Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) of the 1902 glider built and flown by the Wright brothers Orville and Wilbur on beaches near Kitty Hawk,North Carolina,USA. Wilbur is gliding near the bottom of Big Kill Devil Hill. The Wrights carried out a series of glider tests from 1900 to 1902,prior to their first successful flight in a heaver-than-air machine (17 December 1903). This glider design included a rebuilt rudder. It had a length of 4.9 metres and a wingspan of 9.8 metres. Hundreds of glides took place in 1902,the longest of 190 metres took 26 seconds.
