Double Bubble D8 aircraft simulation. Supercomputer visualization of the pressure field over a Double Bubble D8 aircraft. This advanced design concept was developed for NASA by a team led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The aircraft has a very wide fuselage to provide extra lift,low-swept wings to reduce drag and weight, and engines sitting above the fuselage and aft of the wings to block some noise from reaching the ground. It would fly at Mach 0.74,carrying 180 passengers. This simulation, produced by NASA's Pleiades supercomputer, was featured at the SC13 supercomputing conference in November 2013 | |
