Sidney Webb (1859-1947),British socialist. Webb wrote extensively on socialism,trade unions and communism. He was one of the co-founders of the London School of Economics in 1895. He and his wife founded the New Statesman magazine in 1913. Elected a Labour Member of Parliament in 1922,Webb held a succession of political offices under Ramsay MacDonald. He was President of the Board of Trade (1924) and Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (1929-1930) and the Colonies (1929-1931).
