Space Launch System. Illustration of the planned Space Launch System (SLS) on its launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center,Florida,USA. Announced by NASA in 2011,this launch vehicle will be larger (120 metres tall) and more powerful (20 percent more thrust) than the Saturn V moon rockets. It will use space shuttle main engines (SSMEs) and sold rocket boosters. The upper stage will include the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) and the J-2X rocket engine.
