US Army malaria treatment. Patient in a US Army hospital being treated for malaria during World War II. Malaria is a disease presenting as severe cyclic fevers. These are caused by the Plasmodium falciparum parasite,which is transmitted into the bloodstream by mosquito bites. This is the patients' ward of the 7th Portable Surgical Hospital,Soputa,New Guinea.
