Tonsillectomy guillotine (left) and tracheotomy set (right). This type of tonsillectomy guillotine was originally invented in 1828 by Philip Physick and it was used up until the mid 1900s to remove tonsil tissue. The tonsils are two soft lumps of tissue situated at either side of the back of the throat. They are part of the immune system, but in some people they can become inflamed repeatedly. The tracheotomy set includes scalpel, tracheostomy tubes and introducer. A tracheostomy is a surgical procedure whereby an opening is made into the trachea (windpipe) via the front of the neck. These sets originate in England, around 1900 | |
