Julien Xavier Chabert (1792-1859),French-US magician. Also known as Ivan Ivanitz Chabert,he performed public feats of daring,skill and deception involving fire,hot objects and poisons. He was billed as 'the only Really Incombustible Phenomenon' and 'the Fire King'. He performed in France and later in London. In the 1830s he moved to the USA where he worked as a pharmacist. This artwork was published in New York in 1836,celebrating Chabert as a chemist and physician who helped treat victims of the New York cholera outbreak of 1832-34.
