Little Dumbbell Nebula. Space telescope image of the Little Dumbbell Nebula (NGC 650),which lies around 2500 light-years from Earth in the Perseus constellation. Unlike other spherical nebulas, this nebula has a bipolar,or butterfly, shape due to a 'waist' of thick material (lower left to upper right). The green and red clouds are from glowing hydrogen molecules, with the green areas being hotter than the red. Imaged by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope | |
