Halley's Comet in 1066,Bayeux Tapestry. This appearance (apparition) by what would later be called Halley's Comet,is now designated 1P/1066 G1. The comet reached perihelion on 20 March 1066. Some considered it a bad omen. The Latin text at top 'ISTI MIRANT STELLA' translates as 'They look in wonder at the star'. The Bayeux Tapestry,dating from the 1070s,depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England and the Battle of Hastings on 14 October 1066.
