Discovery Antarctic expedition. Expedition members and dogs next to snow-covered huts containing scientific instruments being used in the British National Antarctic Expedition of 1901 to 1904. Led by Robert Falcon Scott,the expedition was also known as the Discovery Expedition,after the ship (centre right) used to travel to Antarctica. The expedition research included studies in biology,zoology,geology,and meteorology. In front of the ship is the hut used as winter quarters for the expedition members. The hut,which was built in February 1902 on Ross Island,has been designated a Historic Site or Monument (HSM) under the Antarctic Treaty System | |
