Antarctic explorers on Terra Nova. Crew members relaxing on the deck of the Terra Nova as it sailed to Antarctica from New Zealand in December 1910 during the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). Also known as the Terra Nova Expedition,the primary expedition objectives were scientific. Departing New Zealand on 29 November,they landed at Cape Evans on 4 January 1911. A shore party of 34,led by Robert Falcon Scott,spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. The ship's party of 32 carried out oceanographic research.
