Richard Wiseman (1622-1676),English surgeon. Wiseman took part in the English Civil War (1642-1651),serving with Royalist forces and attending to the 14-year-old Prince of Wales (the future Charles II). Wiseman was later captured and made prisoner,resuming his career as a surgeon on his release. On the restoration of the monarchy in 1660,he was appointed surgeon to King Charles II,rising to the rank of principal surgeon and serjeant-surgeon. Wiseman's medical works include 'A Treatise of Wounds' (1672) and 'Severall Chirurgical Treatises' (1676).
