Marrett Draw-Over Apparatus. This anaesthetic vaporizer was invented by Rex Marrett in 1942. Vaporizers convert liquid anaesthetics into gaseous form, and deliver them at the correct concentrations for anesthesia. This portable device has a one-way inspiratory valve, and as the patient inhales through a tube connected to the device, air is drawn over the volatile anaesthetic liquid in the bottle. The wick draws the liquid up by capillary action, increasing the surface area from which it can evaporate.
