ASACUSA experiment at CERN,illustration. ASACUSA (Atomic Spectroscopy And Collisions Using Slow Antiprotons) is an experiment that compares matter and antimatter using atoms of antiprotonic helium and antihydrogen. Antiprotons are used from the Antiproton Decelerator. A unique magnetic field configuration (the 'cusp' trap, shown here),is used to trap antihydrogen and study its hyperfine structure. This illustration shows the cavity (green) for hyperfine transitions, the sextupole magnet (red/grey),and the antihydrogen detector (gold). After a decade of preparation,ASACUSA officially came online in 2014. Image published in January 2014 | |
