Carolina Reaper chilli pepper plant and ripe fruit (Capsicum chinense). This hybrid cultivar chilli pepper was listed in 2012 by the Guinness World Records as the hottest chilli pepper in the world. It was bred by crossing the red naga pepper and red savina pepper. On the Scoville scale (a measurement of spicy heat) Carolina Reaper was rated at an average of 1,569,300 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) with a peak rating of 2,200,000 SHU.
