Red-tailed bumblebee (Bombus lapidarius) feeding on cultivated common sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia). Red-tailed bumblebees are mostly coloured black, though the hindquarters are auburn red. Males feature a yellow band on their chests. Although many species are in decline, the red-tailed bumblebee has extended its range northwards in the UK in recent years, and is widespread and common.
