Marks made by banded or brown-lipped snail (Cepaea nemoralis) browsing on algae on dead wood. The banded snail eats a variety of plants. Although it will eat fresh vegetation it usually prefers plants which are dead or decaying. It feeds using a tooth-covered tongue (radula),which acts like a rasp, scraping food particles from surfaces. Photographed in the UK | |
