Great Pyramid of Giza. Historical illustration of the Great Pyramid of Giza at night,as it would have looked shortly after its completion in Ancient Egypt. This pyramid (also now known as the Pyramid of Khufu) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids of the Giza Necropolis. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one to remain largely intact. It is believed to have been built as a tomb over a 10 to 20-year period concluding around 2560 BC,during the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. Its original height of 146.5 metres made it the tallest man-made structure on Earth for over 3,800 years. Image from Je Sais Tout magazine,France,December 1909 | |
