Doedicurus fossil. 19th-century artwork of a fossil specimen of Doedicurus clavicaudatus in the museum in Buenos Aires,Argentina. Doedicurus clavicaudatus was the largest known glyptodontid,an extinct family of heavily-armoured herbivores related to modern armadillos. It had a large spiked tail and reached weights of as much as 2.3 tons. It was found in what is now South America from around 780,000 years ago to 11,000 years ago.
