Verrucano conglomerate rock. The prominent reddish component is a conglomerate rock named Verrucano. It formed in the Permian, but was eroded during Alpine uplift and folding. The substrate is also a conglomerate, with the specimen as a whole from 'Hoherer Deckenschotter',the name for a sediment that was deposited during the last but one ice age. The rounded components indicate the presence of fluvial transport in front of large piedmont glaciers north of the Alps. This specimen is from the Swiss plateau | |
