A carnivorous plant Drosera rotundifolia, the sundew, growing in a half flooded peat bog. Extending from the leaf surfaces are numerous tentacles tipped with a sticky secretion. The tentacles are of two kinds: longer marginal ones and shorter inner ones. Insects, attracted by the secretion, stick to the tips of the longer tentacles, which bend over bringing them inward towards the shorter ones, forming a tight grip. Enzymes secreted by the tentacles digest the insect and the products are absorbed by the leaf. Drosera grows in a nitrogen deficient environment (bogs),which it overcomes by a carnivorous diet.
