Hamilton and Wilkins. British medical researcher Leonard Hamilton (centre) and British physicist Maurice Wilkins (right,1916-2004) with a molecular model of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The two had worked together in the early 1950s on research into the structure of DNA. Hamilton, based in the USA,had provided DNA samples for Wilkins. Wilkins was the deputy leader of the project at King's College London that used X-ray diffraction to study the structure of DNA. The results supported the theories of Crick and Watson. For his work,Wilkins shared the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Crick and Watson. Photographed in the 1960s | |
