Matthew Boulton (1728-1809),British engineer and manufacturer. At right is a depiction of the Soho Manufactory. Boulton followed his father into the manufacturing industry before entering into partnership with John Fothergill around 1760. They set up the Soho Manufactory,Birmingham,England,for manufacturing artistic objects in metal. Boulton was interested in Watt's work on the steam engine and entered into partnership with him,helping his steam engine became a commercial success.
