Pieter van Musschenbroek (1692-1761),Dutch scientist and professor of philosophy and mathematics. Musschenbroek taught at the University of Duisburg in the period 1719 to 1723,then at the University of Utrecht. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1734,he took up a position as professor at Leiden University in 1739. His most famous work was his Leyden jar,the first capacitor,in 1746. The Latin inscription gives his birth year and names him as a medical doctor,philosopher and mathematics professor at Leiden University (Academia Lugduno-Batava).
