Cauliflower jellyfish (Cephea cephea). Jellyfish are free-swimming aquatic invertebrates that are related to the corals and anemones. The Cephea jellyfish are found in warm tropical waters and have well-developed radial muscles but weaker ring muscles. The stinging tentacles are at bottom. The bell (ring-shaped,top) is contracted to propel the jellyfish through the water. Between the bell and the stinging tentacles are cauliflower-like oral arms, with a large surface area to trap its prey. Photographed on Egypt's Red Sea coast | |
