The parotid glands are the largest saliva-producing glands. Here,a salivary duct is blocked by a stone (small white circle at upper right). Salivary duct stones are a build-up of the mineral components of saliva. They can form as a result of poor oral hygiene or a bacterial infection. Treatment involves removing the stone,either by breaking it and massaging it out,or by surgical removal
