Trees killed by mountain pine beetles (Dendroctonus ponderosae). They have been cut down and arranged in piles. Infestations of mountain pine beetles are common in the US,where they have killed millions of hectares of trees in the west. Scientists expect the problem to worsen with global warming,as very cold weather is needed to kill the beetles. Photographed in Grand Lake,Colorado,USA | |
