Carl Alexander Neuberg (1877-1956),German-US biochemist. Neuberg pioneered the new science of biochemistry,rising to become head of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Biochemistry (founded 1912). He was also the founding editor in 1906 of the journal 'Biochemische Zeitschrift' (now FEBS Journal). Research undertaken by Neuberg included the chemistry of carbohydrates,photochemistry,and fermentation. He also studied amino acids and enzymes.
