The mineral Wulfenite is a lead molybdate with the formula PbMoO4. It usually occurs as thin tabular crystals of bright,orange-red colour, sometimes brown or yellowish. Its crystal system is tetragonal, with the habitat varying from pyramidal to tabular crystals. It is found as a secondary mineral associated with the oxidized zone of lead deposits (galena) as well as with traces of cerussite, hydrocerussite, pyromorphite and other minerals. The sample here displayed is from a renowned location in the Sierra Los Lamentos, near Chihuahua in Mexico. The tabular, orange red crystals of wulfenite reside on a substrate of pure white calcite. Individual crystals measure between 5 to 15 mm | |
