Citrus greening disease research. Entomologist (left) and plant physiologist (right) observing Asian citrus psyllid infestation on new growth on a Kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix) tree. The tree was completely defoliated and then given two weeks of specific environmental conditions to induce new growth on all its branches. The Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) transmits the bacteria that causes citrus greening disease. Also known as huanglongbing (HLB),this disease causes mottled leaves and small, bitter fruits that remain partly green even when ripe. There is no cure.
