Wheatstone bridge design. 19th-century diagrams of rheostats and galvanometers used by British physicist Charles Wheatstone (1802-1875) to illustrate his development of the Wheatstone bridge. This device is used to measure an unknown electrical resistance in a bridge circuit. It was invented by Samuel Hunter Christie in 1833,but was improved and popularised by Wheatstone in 1843. Diagrams from Wheatstone's: 'The Bakerian Lecture: An Account of Several New Instruments and Processes for Determining the Constants of a Voltaic Circuit'.
