Georg Simon Ohm (1787-1854),German physicist. Ohm published his most important work in 1827,after many years researching the relationship between electrical current and potential difference. In that 1827 work he showed that the flow of electric current was proportional to the potential difference, and inversely proportional to the resistance of the conductor. This is now known as Ohm's Law. Initially. Ohm's work met with severe criticism, but gradually he gained renown and,in 1852,a professorship at the University of Munich. The International Standard (SI) unit of electrical resistance is named for Ohm | |
