Makemake dwarf planet. Artwork of the surface of the dwarf planet Makemake, with the Sun at top right. Makemake has a diameter of around 1450 kilometres, about two-thirds the size of Pluto. It orbits the Sun at a greater distance than Pluto, and is part of the Kuiper Belt. It was expected to have an atmosphere like Pluto, but this has now been shown to not be the case. Most of the surface consists of nitrogen and methane ices. Makemake was discovered in 2005 | |
