Monte Alban buildings,Mexico. This large pre-Columbian archaeological site is within the Santa Cruz Xoxocotlan region,in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. Founded in around 500 BC. It was one of the earliest cities in Mesoamerica,and for some thousand years was the centre of the Zapotec civilization. The city was abandoned at some point after 750 AD. These structures are known as Building M (centre left,10-metre-high step pyramid),Building O (foreground,three-tiered platform mound),and Building L or the Temple of the Danzantes (Temple of the Dancers,centre right).
