Science and technology figure prominently in the reliefs found on Giotto's Campanile in Florence. Astronomy,navigation,mathematics,medicine,the arts of building and weaving are depicted allegorically with the personification ot their mythical inventors. They also offer a glimpse of contemporary life in 14th century Florence.It shows lanificium – the working of wool. A woman is seated at a loom in celebration of Florence's textile industry; the standing woman beside her may be the Roman goddess Minerva who supposedly introduced the art of spinning and weaving to humanity
