Fresnel on hotel lighting. 19th-century diagram produced by French physicist Augustin Jean Fresnel (1788-1827) as part of his work on hotel lighting. Fresnel studied optics and diffraction. He developed a type of lens (the Fresnel lens) for use in lighthouses. This diagram shows the method and apparatus used to light part of the Hotel de Ville in Paris,France.
