The author is named and his degree of Doctor of Civil Law is given,as well as his status as a Fellow of the Royal Society. The artwork shows Italian physicist Alessandro Volta (1745-1827) demonstrating electricity to the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) who is commenting to his physician Jean-Nicolas Corvisart (1755-1821).
