Rocking Stone. 18th-century artwork of the delicately balanced structure known as the Rocking Stone,on Warley Moor,Halifax,West Yorkshire,UK. Visitors are shown at left,and a druid at upper right. Some rocking stones (also called logan stones) are man-made,while others are natural formations. They were thought to be the location of traditional ceremonies and judgement rituals by a number of peoples,including the druids. This artwork accompanied a description written by British clergyman and antiquarian John Watson (1725-1783).
