Honey bee pesticide research. Researcher with honey bees (Apis mellifera) in an experimental beehive. Selected bees in the hive have radio frequency identification (RFID) chips attached to their backs. These chips are used to track the bees in order to study its behaviour. In this study the bees are subjected to various pesticide doses. They are then released into an experimental beehive and their behaviour is compared to that of healthy bees. There are five access tunnels to the experimental hive. Two scanners are installed above each tunnel to detect the passage of RFID chips, enabling the team to check the bees' movements.
