Lunar craters Hercules and Atlas. These craters are in the north-east part of the visible nearside of the Moon. The Hercules crater (lower left,69 kilometres across) contains two prominent smaller craters,Hercules G (14 kilometres across) and Hercules E (9 kilometres across),the latter on the southern rim of Hercules. The Atlas crater (upper centre,87 kilometres across) has a fractured floor though to be caused by ancient volcanic action. Photographed in May 2011 | |
