Bellanca Airfield. Aerial photograph of the airfield founded in 1928 by Italian-US aircraft engineer Giuseppe Mario Bellanca (1886-1960) and US industrialist Henry Belin du Pont (1898-1970). Consisting of an airfield,aircraft plant,and service hangar,it was constructed in New Castle,Delaware. With financial backing from the wealthy du Pont industrialist family,around 3000 aircraft were built here before the site closed in 1954. The wording on the hanger names Bellanca and the nearest large city of Wilmington. The Bellanca Aircraft Corporation had been founded in 1927. Photographed in 1929 | |
