Mimetite mineral. Mimetite is a lead-arsenide chloride (Pb5.(AsO4)3.Cl),a mineral of secondary origin in lead bearing deposits. Its different forms include prismatic or acicular crystals, but also botryoidal or reniform habitats. The colour is yellow-brown-orange,sometimes colourless. Its name derives from the fact that it resembles pyromorphite, with which it forms a mineral series. The crystal habitat in this sample is a combination of botryoidal and prismatic. Mimetite is often associated with other lead and arsenic minerals, like the dark galena interspersed in this specimen. This sample, from Cumberland,UK,is 16 centimetres across | |
